Dr. A. Jay Burns
is currently an assistant professor of plastic surgery at
the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and has
his private practice at Baylor University Medical Center in
Dallas with offices at the Baylor-Tom Landry Center. Dr. Burns
was born and raised in Garland, Texas. He graduated from Baylor
University magna cum laude. He was honored as Outstanding
Junior Alumni of Baylor University in 1994. Dr. Burns graduated
from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in
Dallas where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary
academic society. He completed an internship and residency
in general surgery at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals
in Salt Lake City followed by a residency in plastic surgery
at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He
then went on to complete specialty training in vascular anomalies
and birthmarks at Harvard Affiliated Hospitals. He is board
certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Burns
has chaired many laser conferences and is a noted national
and international speaker and authority on lasers and cosmetic
surgery, and vascular anomalies and birthmarks. He is founder
and director of the Vascular Anomalies and Birthmark Clinic
at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Burns has been
a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery
since 1992. He is currently a member of the Executive Board
of Directors. He is currently President Elect 2005-2006, and
as will serve as President 2006-2007. He was the Program Co-Chair
for the Dermatology/Plastic Surgery section at the 2001 annual
meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Burns is also a member
of the America Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American
Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Inc. He is a national
spokesperson for both societies and served as Traveling Professor
for the Aesthetic Society for the years 2001 to 2003. In addition,
he is also a member of the American College of Surgeons, the
Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Texas Society of Plastic
Surgeons, and the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He
speaks regularly on television and radio and has been quoted
in many national, state, and local publications such as D
Magazine, Texas Monthly, The Washington Post, Readers Digest,
Self, Family Circle, Better Homes and Gardens, and Elle. He
has been voted by his peers on to D Magazine's "Best
Doctors" list for 2003 and again in 2004. He has appeared
on the Oprah Winfrey show and is the regular guest plastic
surgeon on Good Morning Texas, WFAA-TV. Dr. Burns and his
wife, Ginny, have two children, Hunter, who is an intern at
Kannakuk Kamp, and Molly, who is a Junior at Baylor University.
Dr. Burns is enthusiastically involved with his family and
Watermark Community Church. His personal interests involve
fishing, hunting, video editing, photography and golf.
