Dr.
John L. Burns is a Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and is in private
practice with a renowned group of plastic surgeons at The Dallas
Plastic Surgery Institute in the Tom Landry Center on the campus
of Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Burns was raised in Dallas
and graduated from Highland Park High School. He is a graduate of
Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. At Vanderbilt, he was a
member of the Honor Society and was a varsity letterman in track.
Dr. Burns completed his medical training at the University of Texas
Medical Branch graduating summa cum laude from the research honors
program. As one of the top students, he was elected to the Alpha
Omega Alpha honorary society. He stayed at the University of Texas
Medical Branch where he completed a residency in Plastic Surgery.
In addition, he completed externships in microvascular surgery at
the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX
and cosmetic surgery with Drs. Tom Baker and James Stuzin in Miami,
FL. Dr. Burns completed a fellowship in laser surgery at The University
of Texas Southwestern Medical Center under the direction of his
current partners: Drs. A. Jay Burns and Rod J. Rohrich. His leadership
in the field is evidenced by the numerous peer reviewed articles
and book chapters he has published on the subject of plastic surgery.
Dr.
Burns is well trained in all aspects of plastic and cosmetic surgery.
His philosophy is to achieve the finest possible result with the
least risk. This is why Dr. Burns insists on using only physician
anesthesiologists for all but the most simple of procedures. In
addition, he operates in an on-site fully accredited surgery center,
Dallas Day Surgery Center, or at Baylor University Hospital and
with the Plastic and Craniofacial Institute for Infants and Children
at Medical City Children's Hospital Dallas.
As
the first plastic surgeon in the United States to complete a fellowship
in laser surgery, he brings a unique and unmatched expertise in
facial rejuvenation. Many plastic surgeons offer only surgical solutions
to restore a more youthful appearance. While surgery can often achieve
remarkable improvements, failing to optimize the appearance of the
skin will inevitably yield suboptimal results. With his advanced
training in laser surgery, Dr. Burns is uniquely qualified to address
every aspect of facial rejuvenation.
Dr.
Burns and his wife Ann are happily married with one young daughter
& two sons. Dr. Burns is a member of Park Cities Presbyterian
Church and the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He is regularly
active with LEAP, an organization founded by his partner, Dr. P.
Craig Hobar, whose mission is to bring the finest reconstructive
care to underserved countries. His personal interests include triathlons
(running, biking, swimming), golf, tennis, and skiing.
